Benign coloproctology concerns the management and treatment of non-cancerous diseases of the colon, rectum, and anus. Conditions such as haemorrhoids, anal fissures, fistulas, chronic constipation, polyps, diverticular disease, and anorectal lesions fall under this category. While these ailments are not life-threatening, they can cause significant discomfort and affect a person’s quality of life adversely.
Advances in medical technology have led to better diagnostic tools and minimally invasive surgical techniques that help in effective treatment with reduced recovery time and improved patient outcomes. This makes it possible to manage these conditions more effectively. Educational initiatives like the workshop at Apollo Hospitals Navi Mumbai, help training surgeons in these new techniques, ensuring patients receive the best possible care.
Dr. Nitish Jhawar, Senior Consultant in General, Laparoscopic & Robotic Surgery, Apollo Hospitals Navi Mumbai said,”The Benign Coloproctology Surgical Workshop provided an outstanding platform to showcase advanced techniques in colorectal surgery, including minimally invasive procedures and LASER surgeries.
