“My heart always wanted to direct”, says Saurabh Shukla on his journey from actor to directing Dry Day

Saurabh Shukla, a luminary in Indian cinema, stands out as a distinguished actor, director, and writer, wearing all three hats with finesse. His creative journey spans a diverse body of work that reflects his multifaceted talent. Although Shukla is widely celebrated for his iconic roles like Kallu Mama in Satya,  Inspector Sudhanshu Dutta in Barfi, and Justice Tripathi in Jolly LLB, to name a few, he has also directed some interestingmovies and is now venturing into the digital space with his directorial debut film Dry Day, streaming on Prime Video from December 22.

In addition to proving his mettle as an actor, Saurabh Shukla effortlessly dons the hats of a director and writer, exhibiting a detailed vision for storytelling and filmmaking. His directorial journey adds another layer to his illustrious career, proving that his contributions to the industry extend beyond his acting chops. Ahead of Dry Day’s release on Prime Video, Saurabh Shukla recently revealed that he always wanted to become a director but happened to become an actor ‘unexpectedly’.

“Becoming an actor wasn’t planned; it just happened unexpectedly, and I embraced it with joy. I always loved art and storytelling, finding comfort in the creative world,” shared Saurabh Shukla. He further added, “Life took a turn, leading me into cinema. While every character I’ve played and every story I’ve shared reflects the beauty of this artistic journey that found me, my heart always wanted to direct. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the most amazing parts of our lives are written by the unexpected ink of serendipity.”

Directed by Saurabh Shukla and produced by Monisha Advani, Madhu Bhojwani, and Nikkhil Advani of Emmay Entertainment, in association with Amazon Studios, Dry Day boasts a talented cast comprising  Jitendra Kumar, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Shrikant Verma, and Annu Kapoor in pivotal roles.The movie will premiere exclusively on Prime Video in India and across over 240 countries and territories worldwide on December 22 in Hindi, along with dubs in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada languages.
